WoW 1.1 Details

WarcraftAlthough I don’t play World of Warcraft, and have never gotten pulled into it, I know there are millions of people out there who do. As such, I’m certain we have some readers who play the game and are curious as to what updates will be included in the 1.1 patch.

1Up has an interview with the game’s lead developer that covers features that will be in the update. What follows is a summary from 1Up. If you’d like to read the full review, be sure to make the jump.

The first of the upcoming changes is the redesign and reset of the Priest talent tree. As Paladins were reset recently, so too can priests reallocate their talent points to whatever branch or combination of that they wish. The second adjustment is the ability to upgrade your “blue” dungeon armor sets. The screenshots we’ve gathered highlight the tooltips that pop when you mouse over the gear, revealing the stat upgrades and bonuses you get from having complete armor sets. Each of these blue armor sets can be upgraded by completing a series of soloable and raid-sized party (5 people) quests. The last new feature the patch will introduce is the addition of weather effects.

Yep, Weather Effects! 1Up’s got pictures.

Ape EscapeGood news for all monkey fans: Sony’s in the early development stages of a new Ape Escape title. Specifically, Sony is looking for programmers, designers, and other staffers. Even though the game isn’t officially stated as being developed for the PS3, we’re sure it is. After all, with the game’s development process just gearing up now, we would expect to see the game release for another year or two - and the PS3 will certainly be on the market by then.

E3 eBay TicketsKotaku is reporting of an anonymous individual planning on selling E3 tickets on eBay. Supposedly, he’s planning on starting the bidding at $100 for two tickets.

When there’s profit to be made, someone will make it - surely you remember back a month or two ago when Xbox 360s were going to insanely high prices shortly after launch.

At any rate, if you’re interested in bidding on those passes, here’s a word of advice: be careful. Some of the E3 passes require photo ID and industrial credentials at the door upon obtaining a badge. You’d be a lot safer bidding on an actual badge rather than a simple pass.

Halo 3A GameStop insider claims that he received word via a company e-mail that Halo 3 won’t be coming in 2006.

In fact, here’s exactly what the reported e-mail says:
“Microsoft has stated that Halo 3 WILL NOT be released in 2006.”

Personally I don’t believe it. We all know that if Microsoft can get Halo 3 out the door in 2006, they will. But even if the game won’t make it out this year, why would Microsoft already be telling Gamestop? Telling Gamestop to forget about Halo 3 in ‘06 would kill hype for Halo 3, along with the 360, and probably lead more people to begin pre-ordering PS3s, and not purchase 360s, since they won’t be planning on needing a new Xbox for Halo 3 this year.

What’s with these Gamestop employees and rumors?

MGS3A free DVD is slated to come with any MGS3: Subsistence pre-order. The DVD, entitled ‘Metal Gear Saga,’ interviews with some of the folks who made the game, concept art, and easter eggs. The game ships March 18th. Although we haven’t gone hands on with the new edition, it’s looking great. MGS3 is one of our favorite PS2 games - and the additions to the game sound great - so if you haven’t checked the original out yet, either find it now (probably for a low price) or pre-order Subsistence.

SonySony released strong results for its fiscal third quarter. Net profit and sales were substantially than they were a year ago for the company. Furthermore, PSP and PS2 brought the game division’s profits to $589 million from last year’s $387 million.

Thinking about these results for a minute though, sales clearly should have been higher. The PSP simply wasn’t out a year ago so any income brought in from it is greater than nothing (what it brought in a year ago!). Still, Sony has a great understanding of the industry. We’d be interested in seeing what kind of profits were made separately for the company’s PS2 and PSP.

DS Lite USAGood news for everyone who has fallen in love with Nintendo’s recently revealed DS Lite. According to IGN, the portable machine will be coming out here after it release this spring in Japan. It’s unfortunate that we’re going to have to wait longer to get it, but we’re still glad it’s coming out here. Of course there’s always the option of importing.

Full Auto DemoEarlier today, we were pleasantly surprised to log into Xbox Live and discover that SEGA’s Full Auto demo had been released. After a few minutes of downloading, we jumped right into the game. The main concept behind the game is this: get behind the wheel of a car and race to the finish line - while firing weapons at your opponents, utilizing boost, and gaining air.

Unfortunately, the play experience wasn’t as smooth as you’d hope it’d be. Reportedly, some 360s freeze when the game’s booted up. We didn’t have a problem with freezing though, and we doubt most people will. However, while the gameplay is a lot more polished than what was shown at E3 last year, it’s still not great. The frame-rate isn’t perfect and the controls seem off. Additionally, the game simply doesn’t have the sense of speed that other great races have. Still, the demo’s free and you might as well check it out. Full Auto hits February 14th.
